Our home repair program is an opportunity to work hands on to help families in need in northern Michigan. We do not target specific families but we do operate by these rules: 1) there is a legitimate need, 2) no other resources can be found to solve the problem and 3) there is an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God.
Your youth group will do tasks such as hang dry wall, paint, build wheel chair ramps, clean up jobs, mow grass, build decks, hang doors, etc. This is hard work but it is very rewarding. Most of the time you will see the project from beginning to end.
In addition to doing physical work, quite possibly the most important work will be spending time with the family you are helping. As you hang out and listen to the family members, you will soon realize that this was the most impactful time of your trip.
Your youth group will be stretched, do things you never knew you could, and will build up leadership roles in the students. We want your youth group to grow together spiritually and emotionally. We want to model Jesus and assume the role of a servant. Our hope is that when the week is done, you will seek to find families in your own area that could use help.
